The 2-Minute Version
Hi, I’m Shannon Schureman, licensed therapist and founder of Flare Mental Health.
I provide therapy for people who have spent a lot of time feeling misunderstood. This includes people living with chronic illness, people discovering their neurodivergence and people trying to understand experiences that have never quite fit into the expectations placed on them.
Flare Mental Health was created as a place where you do not have to minimize what you are going through or spend your time explaining why your experiences matter. Whether you are adjusting to changes in your health, exploring a late diagnosis or trying to understand yourself in a new way, therapy can offer space to make sense of what you have been carrying.
My approach is rooted in curiosity and compassion. I believe therapy should begin with understanding rather than trying to change who you are.
What Working Together Looks Like
Therapy with Flare is designed to be accessible and flexible.
Sessions are held virtually throughout New York. California availability is expected in early 2027.
Sessions are 53 minutes and typically begin weekly. We can adjust the frequency over time based on what feels supportive.
You are welcome to participate in the way that works best for you. This may mean attending from bed, keeping your camera off or making other adjustments that help therapy feel more comfortable.
Areas of Support
Chronic Illness Therapy
Living with chronic illness can affect many parts of your life beyond your physical health. Therapy can provide a place to process changes in your body, uncertainty about the future and the emotional impact of living with symptoms that others may not see.

Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy
Therapy can help you better understand yourself without pressure to hide parts of who you are. We can explore what has felt difficult while finding approaches that support the way your brain works.

Young Adults Living With Chronic Illness Support Group
I also offer seasonal virtual support groups for young adults living with chronic illness. The group creates an opportunity to connect with others who understand what it is like to navigate health challenges during young adulthood.

About Shannon
My work is informed by my clinical training and my own experiences with chronic illness and late diagnosis ADHD.
I know how meaningful it can be to finally understand parts of yourself that may have felt confusing for years. This process can also bring difficult emotions as you look back on your experiences through a different lens.
In therapy, I bring curiosity and respect for your story. My goal is not to tell you who you should become. My goal is to help you better understand yourself and create support that fits your life.
Insurance & Cost
I accept several insurance plans through Headway.
Private-pay sessions are $150 per session. Sliding-scale options are available when possible.
