MENTAL HEALTH

Chronic illness & neurodivergent-affirming therapy with Shannon Schureman, LMHC.

• NEW YORK •

Therapy for the full complexity of being you. Through the flare-ups. And everything in between.

Chronic health conditions, invisible disability, ADHD and autism can add layers to your story that often go unseen or misunderstood.

Flare was created to make space for all that you are, while honoring the unique context these experiences bring.

Flare Mental Health provides virtual therapy across New York State for adults navigating chronic illness and neurodivergence.

No masking required
You don't have to change how you communicate or hide your sensory needs. You can show up as yourself.

We go at your pace
Some days take more out of you than others. Our work can shift with what you have available that day.

Come as you are
Need to attend from bed? Prefer your camera off? If something helps you participate more comfortably, we'll make room for it

Your experiences are real
I won't dismiss what you're living with or assume it's all anxiety or a mindset issue. Pain, fatigue, sensory overload and medical experiences deserve space.

meet your therapist

I love working with people navigating chronic illness and neurodivergence. These experiences can add layers to your life that often go unseen or misunderstood. While they don't tell your whole story, they do have a way of showing up in many aspects of your day-to-day. Maybe it looks like pulling away from the people you love because you're burnt out from trying to explain what you're going through. Or masking your way through the world until you crash when you finally get home. Or waiting months for a doctor's appointment only to leave feeling dismissed.

If we have the opportunity to work together, I will always join the therapy room with genuine curiosity about you. I am here to listen and honor what you are going through. I draw from both clinical knowledge and lived experience, while leaning into relational and humanistic frameworks. I believe this creates room for us to build a genuine connection.

In therapy, you don't have to have everything figured out before you walk through the door. You can bring the complicated parts: the grief, the uncertainty and the things that are difficult to put into words. My role is to offer a steady space where you can untangle what you're carrying and explore what you need, without judgment or pressure. Together, we can make room for what has been lost while finding a way forward that feels true to you.

Ways We Can Work Together

Whether you are navigating chronic illness, neurodivergence or the intersection of both, therapy can provide a space to better understand yourself and process the way you experience the world. I offer virtual therapy for adults throughout New York who are looking for compassionate, affirming care.

Therapy for Chronic Illness

Working with adults living with complex health conditions and pain. Therapy can offer support as you navigate identity changes, grief, uncertainty and the emotional impact of living in a body that does not always feel predictable.

Therapy for Neurodivergence

Creating space for adults exploring ADHD, autism, AuDHD, late diagnosis and self-understanding. Find ways to work with your brain rather than against it.

Support Groups

Connecting with others who share the unique challenges. Groups provide connection, shared experiences and a sense of belonging.

Insurance & Cost

I accept several insurance plans through Headway and offer private-pay sessions at $150/session. Sliding-scale spots are available when possible.
