MENTAL HEALTH

Chronic illness, disability and neurodivergent-affirming therapy with Shannon Sironi, LMHC

Therapy for the full complexity of being you.

Through the flares, & everything in between.

Chronic illness and neurodivergence don't exist in isolation. They shape relationships, identity, values and the ways you move through the world. Therapy doesn't have to ignore that context. I believe it's one of the most important parts of the conversation.

Virtual sessions for New Yorkers, rooted in accessibility and understanding.

No masking required.
You don’t have to force eye contact, hide your sensory needs or present a version of yourself that feels easier for others to understand.

We go at your pace.
Your energy, symptoms, and executive functioning can change from day to day. Our work can change with it.

Come as you are.
Need to attend from bed? Prefer your camera off? Need to move, take breaks or find a different way to participate? We’ll work together to make therapy accessible and sustainable.

Your experiences are real.
I won’t assume every challenge is anxiety, depression or a mindset issue. Pain, fatigue, sensory overload, and medical experiences deserve space.

Shannon Sironi, LMHC

Hi, I'm Shannon Schureman, founder of Flare Mental Health and a licensed therapist. I support people navigating life with chronic illness, disability or neurodivergence. These parts of your identity may not tell your whole story, but they have a way of showing up in almost every part of your life.

Maybe it looks like feeling exhausted before the day has even started. Or masking your way through the world, pushing past your limits until you crash when you finally get home. What about the frustration and grief of waiting months for a medical appointment only to leave feeling unheard or dismissed?

If we have the opportunity to work together, I will always join the therapy room with genuine curiosity about you. Every condition comes with its own complexities and there is so much individuality in how each person experiences their body and their circumstances. I am here to truly listen and honor what you’re going through. I want to understand your grief, how these experiences have impacted you and what matters most to you moving forward.

In this space, we might cry. We might laugh. We might even do both at the same time. Therapy can be messy and that’s okay! There is something deeply powerful about having somewhere where the mess can just be. Somewhere you can practice acceptance while still making way for hope and growth.

Insurance & Cost

I know very well how confusing insurance can be and how quickly and scarily medical bills can pile up. I really don’t want therapy to add to this stress, so I've partnered with Headway to accept insurance from Aetna, Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Carelon, Oxford and Optum.

To verify your coverage, simply click here to visit my Headway page and check your specific plan (link will open in a separate window). You're also welcome to email me if you'd like help with an insurance inquiry.

If your insurance is not accepted, I offer private-pay sessions for $150 per session. I also reserve sliding-scale scholarship spots. For every client paying the full fee, I am able to offer a sliding-scale spot to another client. If cost is a concern, please reach out. I'm always happy to brainstorm affordable options together.
